Captain’s log                                                      Stardate: 80025.9 (Sept 25, 2015)

A dinosaur playground? I stumbled upon it after seeing a friend of mine posted it in his Facebook. He posed before a 3-meter foot tall Tyrannosaurus Rex. I notice that there’s also some dinosaur eggs next to the T-rex. Next to it was a smaller Tyrannosaurus, likely portrayed to be its child.

Being a dinosaur lover since young, I suddenly become tempted into it and asked my friend on its location. Turns out that its located at Toa Payoh.

So few days ago, me and a friend of mine when to check it out. After a few mins of searching, there it was!

Its like stepping into Jurassic Park! Well…..not entirely. Hahaha! There’s the 3-meter foot tall T-rex, with the smaller one next to it. There’s also the dinosaur eggs which lies next to the T-rex. There’s also a green platform in the shape of a Stegosaurus. There’s no swings, slides, see-saws or monkey bars in this playground, except for the dinosaurs themselves.

Such a unique playground. Daring kids might try to scale up the towering T-rex. Or even ride on the small one. Such imaginative. Such creativity that can be played at this playground. Especially when you are a fan of Jurassic Park, this playground can be of better use =D

Some people may find it weird to have a dinosaur theme playground been built in such a quiet neighbourhood. But I find it interesting though. Where can you find such playground like this elsewhere in Singapore?

Location of this dinosaur playground is in front of Block 27, Kim Keat Avenue (Toa Payoh).

Not far away from the dinosaur playground was another unique playground. But carries a piece of memory for those who are born in the 80s and 90s. They will lived to tell by its iconic design of animal theme shapes.

But one of them always seem to stands out among the rest. Quite a popular design for playgrounds and a popular place that kids can enjoy for hours! Yes, its the majestic Dragon playground.

I remember back then how I used to love running along its “spine” or body of the dragon and going in-between them. And sliding down the slide which was connected with it. Yes, the slides. Unlike now, most of the slides were built in swirl patterns, where back then the slides were just one straight slide to the ground.

Then, there’s the simple swings and see-saws. And not to mention, little plastic rides in the shapes of seahorse and pony for children to sit on. And yes of course, all were built within the sandy ground. Nowadays you hardly seen such playground surrounded with sand. They were replayed by rubber mats, and some comes with an exercise corner. Nowadays most playground were built in a shape of houses and some in a form of a castle. All comes in standard plastic-made play-sets.

So on the same day itself, me and my friend pay this childhood place of ours a visit. A wave of our childhood memories hit us and soon we found ourselves playing on it. It feels good to being a kid again! =D

dragon playground

I came to know there are few other places that such playgrounds with dragon-based design still exist. And few of them had their sandy ground been replaced by rubber mats. Kids nowadays don’t know how fun its like back then, playing around the dragon. I remember I even built a sandcastle by using the sandy ground. Its so much fun!

Well, some things will change. I wonder if the last of these unique playgrounds were to be demolished one day to make way for newer playgrounds one day. Its really an iconic design, and it would be very sad for those who treasure it dearly as part of their childhood memories when they are gone one day.

Time will tell. Just hope they still remains where they are. Still, I’m glad that I managed to jump back in this old school playground of yesteryear once again and revive my childhood playtime =)

Location for this Dragon playground is along Toa Payoh Lorong 6. Its surrounding were an open field. You can spotted it if you pass by the area. There are few others, where one of them is located at Ang Mo Kio.

Captain’s log                                                     Stardate: 80131.5 (Sept 13, 2015)

Singapore’s most anticipated cosplay event is here once again! Taking place at Marina Bay Sands Convention Hall, it falls from 12th – 13th Sept. The usual, during the weekends. Each year will bring out the best and newest from both East and West combine. Fresh new guest appearance, special highlights, new games, awesome performances, as well as comics, anime, manga and other sizzling collectibles all line up along the booths. It will be a jam-packed weekend to keep you entertain throughout the entire day.

For this year, I can only come on Saturday cause the next day I had to work. But as mentioned like before, to me I’m still ok coming for just one day. I still had my fun anyway =)

And for this year, I had debut in my Batman Beyond suit which I custom-made myself. Its an armour version, and the suit is made out of a motorbike armour jacket. Its a long time dream project, and had took me almost 3 weeks to complete.

I’m pretty sure most of you have heard about Batman Beyond. Or Batman of the Future. Its an animated series, about this teenager who had taken the role as Batman to succeed the veteran former dark knight, Bruce Wayne. Set in the distant future, before the new Batman comes along, the aging Bruce Wayne knew that its time is up. So he was force to retire and shut down his Batcave. Even superheroes had to retire some day. Also, the fact that he had suffered a mild heart attack during one of his mission. Health comes first.

And years later, the teenager named Terry McGinnis comes along. He’s an athletic 17-year-old high school student and a reformed troublemaker. And like Bruce Wayne, he carries a sense of justice. For those who never heard of Batman Beyond, do google to find out more. There’s clips of the series shown in Youtube as well.

Seriously, I like this version of Batman. I mean, the rest are pretty cool. Regardless whether it came from the movies or animated series. Why I prefer this cause it plays the key factors of many Batman projects. One of them is integrating technological and scientific means, making it more vigilant and sleek to face the enemies.

Ultimately, the suit is stealth, as it had the ability to cloak. The boots comes with jet packs, allowing Batman to keep up speed while flying. And unlike previous Batman, it doesn’t come with the cape. But when he flew, the cape will appeared at his back. Impressive isn’t it?

So far I have not seen any cosplayer donned as Batman Beyond. Guess I take the lead. Also, this version is armour version. The original series appeared to be wearing spandex. Mine is based on the armour version seen in the latest Batman game: Arkham Knight. Its one of those Batman skins where you can use to switch from the original skin. I simply prefer that cause its look so damn badass! =D

Back to the event! As usual, every year it will attract thousands of excited fans to drool over what’s in-store. And cosplayers have what it takes to roam around the place, taking photos with the public, and having fun till the end of the day!

Photos taken by friends. Many many credits to them! =)

I’m delighted to see how my Batman beyond had turn out during the entire event. The people, cosplayers were impressed by it. Despite a little wardrobe malfunction here and there, it still turns out a success! Hard work pays off! Believe it. I was so stunned at myself when I notice how badass I look when been selfie together with some of the cosplayers and public. Its like seeing your mirror dark side. Your alter-ego, in how sinister you had become!

And there’s the funny part too. Many had mistaken me for Arkham Knight. A villain which was seen in the game Batman: Arkham Knight. It surprises me as to how far I had come to built something which is, not only to what I had plan, but also turns out to be creating something close to that. Take a close look at the photos shown above. If anyone of you had play the game before, you will know why. I had to admit though. Looks quite close enough…

Its nice to see other Batman cosplayers around. At least 4 of them. All from various themes. The future Batman, me finally meets his predecessors! Suddenly feels a sense of bat belonging! =D

Its been fun throughout the day. Too bad I can’t make it for the last day. Still, I had my fun! And feels happy that I managed to complete my Batman Beyond suit which I thought it could have never been achieved. It may not turn out to some of your expectations. But its as close as to the actual thing. We improve by learning from our mistakes. To me, I’m already happy with it. Cause I had believe in myself that I can do it. And it came true after all.

Looking forward for more events in the future. Power up!

New Place! Great Food!

Captain’s log                                                       Stardate: 80150.6 (Sept 6, 2015)

I was been tagged by a friend in Facebook of a Youtube video that shows about this newly open halal restaurant. Officially open on 1st September, its call Kaw Kaw SG and its located within the heart of Arab Street and the area of Kampong Glam at 28 Aliwal Street.

First established in Malaysia in 2011 by two young Malaysian entrepreneurs, it was named as Kaw Kaw Burger Bakar. It features “Giant Homemade Grilled Patty” and “1st Street Kiosk For Grilled Burgers” as what is written in the company history. Based on the photos shown in the menu, the patties are pretty big indeed.

Now that it had expanded its name in Singapore, people living here can finally indulge on the delightful and mouth-watering burgers and other delights. I’m always on the road to try out new cafes and restaurants. As long as its halal. So this Kaw Kaw SG is a must! So yesterday Sept 5th, me and my girlfriend head down there in the afternoon to give it a shot!

Yes, the burgers are pretty big indeed. Its really KAW! of this world! The menu serves mainly western food. Both of us order the same meal. Fries served with cajun cheese dip and one of their classic burgers. The lamb burger. So appetizing! The food prices ranges below $30. I still say its affordable though.

Next, was the environment. Its spacious and really family-oriented. Also, it was filled with all sorts of vintage household items, furnitures and other unique accessories. There’s also a stage where there will be live performances to relax the mood while you patrons enjoy your meal. But I believe you can only watch it during night time, as shown in the video.

Really unique and quite presentable. Not just a restaurant. But more like a place where you can really chill and relax after a hard day’s work.kaw kawThe restaurant will be open from 1100hrs – 2300hrs everyday. However, you won’t be expecting any food from the time it open until 1700hrs. Cause we were told by them that they only serve drinks and cakes before 1700hrs. But we seated there for an hour anyway.

So if you want to indulge on their mouth-watering menu, I recommend you head there at the time given. Anything after that will all be the food =)

We left the place with a satisfying feeling in our stomach. The service there is friendly, the food’s excellent, the place really accommodating, its really worth for another visit. So if any of you just love burgers, or on a mission to search for new eating places, do try out this newly opened restaurant. Address is at 28 Aliwal Street. You will simply love it! =D
