What starts off was this magical beans that grows into a giant beanstalk that reaches to the sky. Above there was this mysterious floating island, and there lives a Giant who goes by “FEE-FI-FO-FUM” when he smells you.

That’s about the classic fairytale of Jack and the Beanstalk. But not for this Jack the Giant Slayer. Still a story about a humble farm boy. But not your typical Jack, that faces a Giant and a Beanstalk. Me and some of my friends watched the movie yesterday the 2nd. Quite an epic movie I must say. Its totally an action-heavy re-imaging of the classic fairytale. You will see not only just one giant, but a whole army of them. No more seeing a single beanstalk, but seeing more came crashing out from the ground, and even from the floating island itself.

I supposed this applies to that recent movie Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. I did not watch the movie. But I heard its all re-create into an epic action movie which is totally out from your typical fairytale Hansel and Gretel. It starts off the same like in the fairytale. Then years later, where the siblings grow up and become famed bounty hunters. Dedicate to exterminate witches. How awesome was that!

Back to Jack. You will be amazed by how engrossed the movie was. A fairytale once that was been read and pass down from generations from a story book, before it turn into something out of this world. The story starts off in this vast kingdom, where this young farm boy named Jack. He was fascinated about a legend in which an ancient king, Erik, defeated an army of invading giants from a realm in the sky by mind-controlling them with a mystical crown. At the same time, the crown princess Isabelle becomes fascinated with the same story.

Yes, the mystical crown. Imagine a normal human like you, wearing that and forcing the giants to kneel down and bowed to you like as if you are their leader. Their king. In what better ways to make them obey to your command. No matter how puny you are to them.

Ok, not to be a spoiler, I would suggest for those who are yet to watch better catch a good one before its no longer on screen. Cause I might ruin you guys if I were to explain much of it. Or perhaps, can read about its premise in wikipedia. It will give you that rough idea how the story is like! =)

But seriously, overall its a great movie. Its not all about what’s been told in the original fairytale, where Jack’s mum throw the magical beans out from the window. And climbing up the beanstalk and ended up coming face to face with a giant who will make you his dinner. Then simply cutting down the stalk with an axe. Killing the giant who follows him down. Then both Jack and his mum lived happily ever after. At the same time as a wealthy family, all thanks to Jack for stealing the giant’s treasures. This is what I remember vividly.

This re-imaging is about an ancient war between humans and a race of giants. It reignited when Jack, a young farm boy fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds….

Yes, its a recommended awesome movie to watch! Go catch it before the giants do! =D

After this, I wonder which fairytale were next to be all re-imaging into a heavy action movie. Beauty and the Beast, maybe? =P
