Captain’s log                                    Stardate: 61104.5 (Mar 17th, 2013)

The moment I read the event name, I knew for sure it got something to do with Japanese culture. All about their traditional elements and just about everything “MADE IN JAPAN.” Best for those who are into this culture. The event takes place at Jurong Point Mall on the weekends, yesterday the 16th and today the 17th.

**And don’t forget, Power Rangers were originally from Japan as Super Sentai, and that we are still considered part of Japanese culture.

There’s a cosplay competition on the 16th. There will be a variety of booths showcasing “MADE IN JAPAN” stuff. Even foodstalls. But those who wanna come just for the usual cosplay is also welcome as this is a novice-friend cosplay event. The last day will be various of performances. More to music oriented.

Both days I’m off. But I only made my appearance on the 1st day since it was recommended for those who want to cosplay. And also, there’s where the competition will be held.

And since this is a small event, I just cosplay as Red Ranger hoodie. Simple and casual Red Ranger me! =D Furthermore this event will be my 1st cosplay appearance for this year 2013.

Here’s some of the best photos taken! =)

Frame 1111

The event space is relatively small. With all the crowd gathered there, there’s hardly much space to move around.

But nevertheless, it been great to join in for the event. Really had a lot of fun with friends and the people as they take photos with us.

Now looking forward for more cosplay events! =)

Re-Opening Cosplay Project

Captain’s log                                Stardate: 63914.8 (Mar 5th, 2013)

After putting in so much thoughts into it, I had decided to re-opened a cosplay project. A project which I had long abandoned it due to lack of experience in getting it done. I didn’t pay much attention in giving all my effort into it back then cause I got the feeling it might not work out. This is even before my Red Ranger suit arrives.

Back then yes… I just give up. But now, after much thinking and debating in my own head, I decided that I will. Besides, I always dream to cosplay as this character. Its just so cool and totally mainstream! Too machine! Too engrossed!

But guys, sorry to say that I won’t reveal much about it. It will remained a secret until the time is right. I can only tell you that its all armour and its from a fighting game, which is also based on a movie. But the character itself, doesn’t appeared in the movie.

Since its all armour, which I’m gonna built it using foam like those epic cosplayers, its gonna buy some time. A lot of time. I’ve done doing armour before. Not really something like from head to toe. But more of crafting a vest, gauntlets for myself and some few cosplay friends of mine. From there, I will pick up my skills and try to gradually improve.

Those epic cosplayers who built their epic armours using foam had start from small. And slowly showing signs of improvements. I just had to give a shot myself. Their efforts really pays off!

I will…..try my very best. For this one…..

Captain’s log                                      Stardate: 62991.7 (Mar 3rd, 2013)

What starts off was this magical beans that grows into a giant beanstalk that reaches to the sky. Above there was this mysterious floating island, and there lives a Giant who goes by “FEE-FI-FO-FUM” when he smells you.

That’s about the classic fairytale of Jack and the Beanstalk. But not for this Jack the Giant Slayer. Still a story about a humble farm boy. But not your typical Jack, that faces a Giant and a Beanstalk. Me and some of my friends watched the movie yesterday the 2nd. Quite an epic movie I must say. Its totally an action-heavy re-imaging of the classic fairytale. You will see not only just one giant, but a whole army of them. No more seeing a single beanstalk, but seeing more came crashing out from the ground, and even from the floating island itself.

I supposed this applies to that recent movie Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. I did not watch the movie. But I heard its all re-create into an epic action movie which is totally out from your typical fairytale Hansel and Gretel. It starts off the same like in the fairytale. Then years later, where the siblings grow up and become famed bounty hunters. Dedicate to exterminate witches. How awesome was that!

Back to Jack. You will be amazed by how engrossed the movie was. A fairytale once that was been read and pass down from generations from a story book, before it turn into something out of this world. The story starts off in this vast kingdom, where this young farm boy named Jack. He was fascinated about a legend in which an ancient king, Erik, defeated an army of invading giants from a realm in the sky by mind-controlling them with a mystical crown. At the same time, the crown princess Isabelle becomes fascinated with the same story.

Yes, the mystical crown. Imagine a normal human like you, wearing that and forcing the giants to kneel down and bowed to you like as if you are their leader. Their king. In what better ways to make them obey to your command. No matter how puny you are to them.

Ok, not to be a spoiler, I would suggest for those who are yet to watch better catch a good one before its no longer on screen. Cause I might ruin you guys if I were to explain much of it. Or perhaps, can read about its premise in wikipedia. It will give you that rough idea how the story is like! =)

But seriously, overall its a great movie. Its not all about what’s been told in the original fairytale, where Jack’s mum throw the magical beans out from the window. And climbing up the beanstalk and ended up coming face to face with a giant who will make you his dinner. Then simply cutting down the stalk with an axe. Killing the giant who follows him down. Then both Jack and his mum lived happily ever after. At the same time as a wealthy family, all thanks to Jack for stealing the giant’s treasures. This is what I remember vividly.

This re-imaging is about an ancient war between humans and a race of giants. It reignited when Jack, a young farm boy fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds….

Yes, its a recommended awesome movie to watch! Go catch it before the giants do! =D

After this, I wonder which fairytale were next to be all re-imaging into a heavy action movie. Beauty and the Beast, maybe? =P

A Superhero Dream…..

Posted: March 1, 2013 in Uncategorized

Captain’s log                                  Stardate: 65004.9 (Mar 1st, 2013)

You know, ever since I cosplay as Red Ranger, I’ve been getting a lot of incredible dreams where I was really the Red Ranger. Saving lives, fighting villains, help in restoring justice. Sometimes alone and sometimes with my other fellow rangers or other superheroes. I uphold the true powers of being one, and that my morpher is real. Seriously, why…..

My friends thinks its great. I mean, its quite rare to have such dreams, isn’t it? Well, I had to agree to that. Or some might say, I’ve been watching too much Power Rangers, and that I had cosplay a lot as Red Ranger. So in particular, your mind started to rewind those great moments while you are in sleep mood. In addition, as a big fan of Star Trek I do once in a while dream that I captained a Federation starship, and to lead a stronghold of Federation fleet to eliminate an invading enemy forces. How cool was that!? =D

Well, I’m not always that keen to share how cool my dream is. But this one is just so thrill to me that I just had to share.

I dreamt that I retired from being a Red Ranger. That’s it. No more. No more summoning the Tyrannosaurus. No more dealing with the villains. I’m getting too old. Wanna live a simple life now. Besides, there are other superheroes way better, and more advance than me.

I dreamt that I live in a fictional Singapore where there’s tons of superheroes who had dedicate their lives in protecting the country. We were so well-known that the citizens depends on us most of the time. It kinda reminds me of Marvel Comics and Justice League.

So, I sealed away my morpher inside a showcase. One last look. It lies there. Untouched. No more Red Ranger. Goodbye.…forever…

Fast forward 6 years later. One day a rampage of hell broke loose at Central Business District. Monsters….monsters everywhere. Superheroes fought hard! They were beaten badly, but ain’t giving up. They can’t give up! They had dedicated their lives in protecting the country and its people.

I watch it in the news. Its hell on Earth. There’s superheroes already. Why need me? I switch off the TV just to avoid the worries. Do my own things. Let those heroes handle. I’m pretty sure they win by then. I work with them before….

Then I got a call. One of the heroes there desperately need me to assist. Frantically telling me to come back to the League of Justice! I told him firmly that I ain’t gonna, even despite hearing the explosions and the horrifying screams at the background. He keep pleading. I made my choice!

“Why need me where there’s a bunch of you way better than me!” I hang up.

I looked out at the window, which faces CBD. From where I stand, I saw…..smoke…. So high that it block the sun. Then pockets of explosions. The screams there were loud enough for me to hear. Disembodied cries….

Seeing it suddenly make me weak. It pains me to see the suffering. Not just the citizens. But from the heroes as well. They were overwhelmed! Sooner or later they couldn’t take much of it and be declared defeated. The desperate voice of the hero who call me echoed in my head: “We need you back!”

NOOO!! I bawled my fist and punch it on the wall! I WILL NOT!!! RED RANGER IS NO MORE!!!! I WILL NOT COME BACK!! I WILL NOT….

Then came an explosion nearby. I ran to the window. I saw three enemy alien fighters whizzed past and heading towards CBD. They just destroyed a building nearby my apartment. My God! They are bringing air support!

My heart sank. Its getting worse. This left me…. My mind says go. But my feet wouldn’t let me. Another explosion. This time so near that I nearly were thrown to the floor.

I gathered enough courage and storm straight to a room. Where right at the end, being display in a small showcase, was my morpher. Left untouched for the past 6 years. The gold Tyrannosaurus coin gazed up me, as I looked. Like as if its calling me. Persuading me.

To go…one last morph…..

I open up the showcase. Hold up the morpher. It felt so different after been untouched for 6 years. My eyes…and the eyes from the dinosaur met. Somehow I hear a roar. A roar of the Tyrannosaurus. Summoning me……to summon it. The morpher shines surprises me. It has awaken by my touch! My heart beats faster. Somehow I feel a surge of energy as I grip hard onto the morpher. Its like as if…. as if….

Another explosion. This time my apartment shook hard and I fall. Gritted my teeth, hold my morpher up and seethed..

“One…last…morph… Hang on heroes. I’m coming!”

And I woke up…..

I stared into the darkness, and wonder. Would I ever dream something like this again? As many times I dream about it, I got the feeling by no doubt, I might get another…..

And if it gets too interesting, I might be willing to share.
